FAQs
If you have any questions, we should be able to help you here. If we haven’t answered your question please call or email us.
How long will it take for my curtains to be ready?
Most curtains are made in 4-6 weeks but this is dependent on the fabric being in stock. We sometimes have to wait longer for an appointment with our fitter, but if you have a particular deadline in mind, please let us know. Cushions take 1-2 weeks and upholstery can take up to 2 months.
How long will it take for my blinds to be ready?
Most roman blinds are made in 4-6 weeks. Roller blinds in standard fabric are usually 2-3 weeks and venetian blinds 3-4 weeks. We sometimes have to wait longer for an appointment with our fitter, but if you have a particular deadline in mind, please let us know.
Do I have to measure up?
Relax! Provided that you live within a reasonable distance we will come and measure up for you. There is no charge for this.
If you live further afield, and would still like us to make up your curtains, you will need to measure up, but we can give you lots of advice.
Do I need to pay in advance?
When you are happy with the details on your estimate you will need to pay a 50% deposit. (As it is a custom made order to your exact specifications). The deposit is non-refundable. You can post us a cheque, make a bank transfer, or call us with your card details.
By paying the deposit, you are entering into a contract to purchase the items, as detailed on the estimate, so please check it carefully. Please request any changes in writing and make sure that we acknowledge the change.
The balance is due on the fitting day (if we are fitting) or prior to despatch, if we are sending them to you.
What brands can you show me?
We do not hold any stock of fabrics but have a library of over one hundred sample books at the showroom in Bletchingley.
Suppliers include Clarke & Clarke, Sanderson, William Morris, Pavilion, Chess Designs, Studio G, James Hare, Jim Dickens, James Brindley of Harrogate, Vanessa Arbuthnott, Emily Burningham and Celia Birtwell.
We also have samples of pole ranges by Cameron Fuller, Jones Interiors and Foster Lane. Trimming are from Troynorth and Jones Interiors.
We have a limited range of books from Villa Nova, Kirkby House, Romo, Warwick and Cristina Marrone. We can also order fabrics by Prestigious Textiles.
Do you sell shutters?
We sell what we consider to be the current ‘best value’ shutters. After measuring, we will give you an initial estimate, based on square meterage. If this is acceptable, the fitter will come to carry out a full survey; he will discuss the exact material, colours, dimensions, and opening details with you. After this, we will re-confirm the estimate price. The order is confirmed only when we have received a 50% deposit. Delivery is approximately 8 weeks later.
The balance is due in full on the delivery day.
Will you make up my own fabric?
If you have found a fabric you love elsewhere, or fallen for a sale bargain, we will make it up for you. There may be a small ‘fabric handling charge’ (usually £5-10, depending on the amount of fabric we are handling for you).
Can I have some samples?
We can order free samples of most of our fabrics and some companies will provide much larger ‘returnable’ samples.
Can I return fabrics you have supplied?
Cut lengths of fabric are non-returnable.
Due to the bespoke nature of our products we are unable to issue refunds on items that have been cut for you, all made to measure products including poles and tracks and part orders of wallpaper. This is why we always recommend ordering samples of fabrics and wallpapers before placing an order.
Poles and accessories are returnable if in perfect condition within 7 days of purchase.
How can I prolong the life of my curtains?
Well-made bespoke handmade curtains and handmade interlined curtains are a luxury and an investment and will last for many, many years.
To keep your curtains looking their best, draw them well back from the light to help prevent fading from sunlight; interline them; draw them with a pulley system to avoid touching them more than necessary making the leading edge dirty.
How do I clean my curtains and blinds?
We recommend cleaning your curtains or roman blinds with a vacuum cleaner (low suction setting) with a piece of muslin over the nozzle. If it is absolutely necessary to clean them we recommend Dry Cleaning only.
Once your furnishings are wetted (either by water or dry cleaning solvents) there MAY be some shrinkage. Fabrics i.e. lining, interlining and face fabrics, will all shrink at different rates.
We can supply a spray can of stain repellent if you are concerned about a particular part of your curtains becoming dirty through frequent handling.
Can you help with interior design?
Certainly, yes. We can help! We are interior furnishing specialists and have many years’ experience of putting room schemes together; we enjoy working with our customers to help them realise their vision. For more complex interior design services we can refer you to local interior designers who we know.
